Year’s End Post

When I’ve gone this long without any sort of update, let’s be honest, I typically….delete the entire site and start it over again. Healthy behavior, surely. But! I’m not doing that this time. I have been very busy but I also have been in a period of assessment and reflection, and ultimately I’m not yet sure what shape I want this website to take.

But it’s still my website and I am still here 🙂

It has been a very difficult year between economic instability, import tariffs creating complexity for FootClothes, a fire in the next door warehouse that damaged loads of stock and required time-consuming insurance claims, and a disc herniation that required me to get back surgery. I am six weeks post-op as I write this, and visiting a new physical therapist tomorrow. I suppose that’s part of what had me thinking of making a new blog update—just a check-in to say hey, I am here, and while things have been rough, I have persisted.

Don’t expect too many wrap-up posts about my hobbies or reading for the year—I’ve not been keeping great stats there—and I’m generally too fatigued with social media to post very often. But I am lurking, and much like a reticent dragon, may respond if poked for attention.

I have a few other irons in the fire regarding creative work, and am pursuing some new avenues in storytelling, but my back injury has been quite detrimental to many of my usual activities. So far I am healing well, but for months I couldn’t do much fiber art and I wasn’t able to sit at a table very comfortably, which is a requirement for Tarot (the way I read, at least). I considered trying to work those things in while supine, but frankly, I just needed to rest.

Rounding out the difficult year was a surprise illness and farewell to one of our beloved cats. I will use a photo of Smoke here, not to appease the website overlords, but because she was literally the fucking coolest and cancer is the absolute worst. She has been gone less than a month, and is terribly missed.
